Inclusion

At Tufnell Park, we are committed to providing an inclusive education where all children can thrive. Our Inclusion Class is designed to support pupils with diverse learning needs, ensuring they receive high-quality teaching and access to the full curriculum.

Our Approach to Inclusion, SEND, and SEMH Support

We recognise that for some children, additional specialist support is necessary to help them reach their full potential. Our approach to SEND follows a structured journey, ensuring that every child’s needs are identified, supported, and reviewed effectively. To help parents understand the different stages of support, we have created a clear flowchart outlining the steps involved, from early identification and classroom-based support to more targeted interventions and referrals to external professionals where needed.

Alongside this, we understand that a child’s social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) plays a crucial role in their ability to learn and succeed. As part of our inclusive approach, we have developed a comprehensive SEMH policy (please see below) with clear referral pathways, ensuring that children who need additional emotional or mental health support can access the right help at the right time. Our SEMH intent statement (please see below) outlines our commitment to fostering a nurturing and supportive school environment where children feel safe, valued, and equipped with strategies to manage their emotions.

At Tufnell Park Primary School, we recognise the importance of promoting positive mental health and emotional well-being to our children and their families. We aim to create an open culture around the discussion of mental health and well-being and to empower our children to regulate their emotions. One of the ways we do this is through the Zones of Regulation curriculum.

The Zones of Regulation is a framework that helps children develop self-regulation skills by categorising their emotions into four colour-coded zones. It supports them in identifying their feelings, understanding their triggers, and using strategies to manage their emotions effectively. This approach helps children recognise how their emotions impact their actions and interactions with others.

We believe that working in partnership with families is key to success, and we encourage open communication at every stage of a child’s journey with us. For more information about our SEND and SEMH provision, including our referral pathways and intent statement, please visit or contact us.
