Book Of The Week

Our book of the week is: ‘Giraffes can’t Dance’ by Giles Andrea and Guy Parker-Rees.

A classic picture book about being yourself and finding your own tune. Gerald the giraffe longs to go to the great Jungle Dance, but how can he join in when he doesn’t know how to tango or two-step? Everyone knows that giraffes can’t dance … or can they? … (You can view the audiobook here.)

‘Monkey Puzzle’ by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler

Book Of The Week

 ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’  written by Michael Rosen and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury. Follow and join in the family’s excitement as they wade through the grass, splash through the river and squelch through the mud in search of a bear. Song Of The Week 

“The Bear Went Over The Mountain”.  This is a very popular nursery rhyme, that is used in homes and schools all over the world. The lyrics are of unknown orgin, but what is sure, is that the song “The Bear Went Over The Mountain” is sung on the tune of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow”. You can find the song here.

Book Of The Week

Our book of the week is: ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ by Giles Andreae & David Wojtowycz

This book is about many of the animals that live in the ocean, and that live around the ocean. It talks about all of the fish, the ones that live in shallow waters, all the way to the ones that live in deep sea at the bottom of the ocean. This book also shows animals that live out of the water as well. Like the sea turtle, crabs, polar bears, and walruses.

Book Of The Week

Our book of the week is: ‘Farmer Duck’                 

Written by Martin Waddell and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury. This is a fabulous children’s story of a hardworking duck, who has the very bad luck of living with a lazy farmer. The duck cooks and cleans, tends the fields and cares for the other animals on the farm – and all while the famer lies in bed! That is until the day the animals decide to take action … and come to the rescue with a simple, but heroic plan.

We will also be looking at the book ‘Duck in a Truck’ by Jez Alborough   

This story revolves round a very impulsive and excitable duck, whose truck gets stuck in the muck (it’s a rhyming story!). He ropes in various farm animals and a frog to try and help him get his truck unstuck. (You can view the audiobook here.)
