Easter

School was scheduled to be closed from this Friday, re-opening on Monday, 20th April for the Easter holidays.  However, in these extraordinary times we think it is important to support your children during this time.  Given this, please find below and attached a number of ideas and suggestions to support your child’s learning over the next two weeks.

However, please be aware that these two weeks will be different and we will not be sending out daily suggestions on Class Dojo or be able to respond to your posts on Class Dojo.

Week Beginning Monday, April 6th

Book of the Week

Our Book of the Week this week is: Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. (You can view the book here.)

Read this book with your child every day, ensuring that they repeat key phrases of it or even the whole book.

For really nice things to do related to the book see here.

There are lots of tellings (I think this is a word and if it is not, it should be) of this, but my favourite can be found here.

Song of the Week

This week’s song is very funny and fast and sung to the tune of What Shall we do with the Drunken Sailor, see here for the tune:

It is all about getting ready for the day and at night getting ready for bed.  You can also make up you own sections which is lots of fun.

But her are some lines to be getting on with:

What shall we do with a girl/boy called (your child’s name)?

What shall we do with a girl/boy called (your child’s name)?

What shall we do with a girl/boy called (your child’s name)?

Ready for the day

We’ll wash her/his hands unitl they’re clean, etc.

We’ll clean her/his teeth until they sparkle, etc.

We’ll put her pants and socks and shoes on, etc.

Letters and Sounds

We’ve worked hard over the last 2 weeks reading and writing questions and sentences, and we want to keep this up over the holidays.  However, after that we’ll be doing Letters and Sounds in a slightly different way – finding out about what happens when certain sounds appear next to each other.  This will allow us to read longer and longer words!  I know it’s exciting.

This week we are going to read and write questions AND sentences!  Which you can find here.

Remember

Each day we should do some physical that makes our heart pump and our lungs fill with lots of air.  Also, once this week try to do something that’s a bit gooey – cornflour, salt and, of course, shaving foam are all really fun.  But remember, please clean up when your finished.

Week Beginning Monday, April 13th

And here is where you can find lots of them.

And you can see watch the short animated film on the BBC here.

Song of the Week

This week’s song is the Dingle, Dangle Scarecrow.  You can find the lyrics and a very beautiful rendition (not sung by me) here.

Letters and Sounds

This week’s questions and sentences can be found here.

Take care of each other and enjoy the weeks ahead.

Yours,

Terry
