Week beginning 30th March
This week our Book of the Week is:
The Gingerbread Man
Read this book with your child every day – making sure they repeat key phrases of it or even the whole book, and by the end of the week they will know it off by heart and will be able to retell it back to you.
Here is a nice version to start with but feel free to search for others. There are plenty on YouTube, or it is great to tell your child the version you are familiar with. Talk to your child about the similarities and differences in the different versions.

Phonics
This Week we will be starting phonics. I will post activities for the ‘new sound‘ each day.
We will cover sh, ch, th and ng. We will be working on a new sound each day, then reviewing on Friday.
Maths
Our ‘Number of the Week is 15‘
We will also be focussing on some shape activities this week.
Look around the house what 2D and 3D shapes can you find? Can you find a cylinder, cube or cuboid?
Understanding the World
We will be cooking making gingerbread people.
We will also be looking at recycled materials.
We will learn that some people celebrate Easter as well as looking out for signs of Spring.
We will be investigating the importance of washing our hands and doing a few experiments.
Expressive Arts and Design
We will be taking part in the Tufnell Park Spring Hat Parade. Your challenge is to make a hat out of recycled materials. Your hat can be any design or theme -so get creative.

As many of you are already familiar with Goldilocks I thought it would be nice to do an additional BOOK OF THE WEEK- Stanley’s Stick by John Hegley

I think this will be a great book to start with as it is all about being creative and using our imaginations- skills that are especially important at the moment.
ACTIVITIES
1) Help your child find something they can use as a stick. It could be a wooden spoon, a toilet roll, some rolled up paper or a stick if you can find one. Encourage them to imagine it is something else and use it in their play. A dinosaur? A witches broom?
2) As your child to decorate your stick using whatever you can find at home.
3) Draw a picture of your stick being different things.
