Our Vision

Tufnell park is committed to minimising its environmental impact and to its improvement of the local and global environment. We aim to raise awareness throughout the school to encourage and engage both staff, pupils and parents to learn more about waste prevention and recycling, as well as open up a range of opportunities for the pupils to learn and demonstrate their knowledge.

Our aim is to empower the children to work towards a more sustainable lifestyle and to help mould them into responsible global citizens. This is achieved by encouraging this lifestyle into everyday school life. What young people learn today will influence how future generations live. As a commited sustainable school our intent is to be part of a growing global movement that seeks to play a crucial role in achieving a better environmental future.

At Tufnell Park we implement an environmental learning programme that ensures children understand and take responsibility for their impact on the wider environment. We encourage an awareness of sustainability and the environment including the growing and harvesting of plants for food, to be integrated into school meals and cooking programmes. What We Have Done

As a school we believe we play a vital role in developing awareness and passion for the importance of our environment. We believe that it is important for children to be able to have an active role and voice to contribute to a sustainable environment. To this aim we have set up a Green Team, who aim to monitor our progress towards reaching our goal of a sustainable future, and both monitoring and reducing our impact on the environment.

Our school is an eco-school built to be energy efficient.

Recycling: All staff and children are involved in a team effort to recycle paper/card.

Local environment: As part of being a healthy school, we encourage families to walk or bike to/from school where possible. We have campaigned to make our streets a pedestrian and cycle zone only.

What We Are Going to Do

The Green Team are planning to implement a Plastic Pledge. Our long term aim is to eradicate single use plastic from school. We will work within the community to educate people on how to recycle effectively. We will also be monitoring and ensuring that green waste is effectively composted on site.
