Oracy

Oracy is the ability to articulate ideas, develop understanding and engage with others through spoken language.

At Tufnell Park, we believe oracy is a powerful tool for learning; by teaching our children to become more effective speakers and listeners we empower them to better understand themselves, each other and the world around them. It is also a route to social mobility, empowering all children, not just some, to find their voice to succeed in school and life. 

We are working with guidance from Voice 21, a nationally-recognised expert organisation for oracy, to develop oracy across the school, across the curriculum.

Our vision for Oracy

Every child finds their own unique voice at Tufnell Park. The ability to speak eloquently, articulate ideas and thoughts, collaborate with others and have the confidence to express views and opinions are essential aspects of our curriculum. 

Teachers and children have high expectations of purposeful talk and are able to adapt their use of language for a range of different objectives and audiences.

We celebrate the diversity of languages, dialects and accents and value the linguistic abilities of all children.
