Monday 13th April

Book of the Week

Our Book of the Week this week is: Red Riding Hood by Ladybird first favourite tale. (You can view the book here.) This is a classic tale and one of my favourites because the children enjoy joining in with Red Riding Hood when she notices Grandma’s big eye, ears and teeth. By the end of the week you can watch the movie click here

Song of the Week

This week as well as our usual nursery rhymes we will be learning the classic song: The Teddy Bears’ Picnic. Try and sing the song together every day. You can find the lyrics and the song here.

Planned Activities for the Week

Physical Activities

Play what’s the time Mr Wolf , What’s the time Mr Wolf is a classic game for children of all ages to enjoy. To find how to play the game click here

Try playing Hide and Seek in doors or outside with Red riding Hood hiding and the wolf seeking you could make masks for each character to add more fun to the game.

Creative Activities

Why not have a Teddy Bears’ picnic in doors encourage your child to prepare sandwiches and use maths terminology such as half and quarter when they are cutting the sandwich. Let your child select what they want in their sandwich

Decorate some biscuits or cakes and then count them, how many all together? Why not do some role-play, you can use your Easter Basket and fill it up with goodies to take to Grandma. What is in your basket and how many?

Book of the Week

Our Book of the Week this week is: We’re Going On An Egg Hunt by Laura Huges. (You can view the book here.) This book is about some rabbits going on an Easter egg Hunt and is a beautiful spin on Michael Rosen’s Going on A Bear hunt.

Listen to this book with your child every day, ensuring that they repeat key phrases. That way by the end of the week they will know it really well.

Song of the Week

Carrying on our Easter theme this week we will be learning another classic song: Chick, Chick, Chicken. Try and sing the song together every day. You can find the lyrics and song to Chick, Chick, Chicken here. Please do send me a video of them singing along.

Try to do something physical every day, here are some links to Joe Wicks work out click here, Cosmic Yoga click here and some action songs with Sticky Kids click here. Don’t forget to go for a walk and maybe look for shapes and colours while on your walk.

Creative Activities

Why not make an Easter card/Spring card for a neighbour (especially if they are self-isolating). You can use some of the home learning activities I sent home as stencils for cards.

Book of the Week

Our Book of the Week this week is: The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. I really love this book because the short rhymes and their repetitive structure make the book fun to read aloud. for the online book click here. Please see Class Dojo for other versions of the story.

Song of the Week

Easter is fast approaching, so this week as well as our usual nursery rhymes we will be learning the classic song: Hot Cross Buns. Try and sing the song together every day. You can find the lyrics to Hot Cross Buns here and the song here. See Class Dojo for more songs and rhymes.

Planned Activities for the Week

To help you prepare for this week I will list some of the activities I have planned so you can stock up on shopping/resources you might need. As our book this week is The Gruffalo I thought we could cook some of the food mentioned in the story such as scrambled eggs (scramble snake) Apple crumble (Gruffalo Crumble). We can used cooked spaghetti/noodles(snakes) with food colouring of your choice for mess play. We can try toasted Hot Cross Buns and make Easter Nests. Recipes for your Easter Nests are in your pack for this week.

To end the week we will be have a Easter Hat Parade so get creative. (I have provided some collage materials in your pack and two templates for you to choose from or feel free to make your own type of hat) We will end with an Easter Egg Hunt so you will need some mini eggs to hide around your home or garden. Don’t forget to check Class Dojo daily for the day’s activities.

Read this book with your child every day – making sure they repeat key phrases of it or even the whole book, and by the end of the week they will almost know it off by heart!
