Black History Month 2021
For Black History Month 2021 at Tufnell Park, children focused on:
- The Windrush Generation
- The activist Claudia Jones
- The role Notting Hill Carnival has played in developing community relations.
All activities and learning were age appropriate for each phase. The project crossed over with other curriculum subjects including history, music, art, cooking and citizenship. The learning had already taken place in classes across the school.
Events happening over the Black History Month at Tufnell Park
Friday 8th October at 9:10
Sunshine International Arts came to share their expertise in a whole school assembly about Carnival Mas Bands and costumes. Check out the news post and pictures here
The week commencing 11th October
Cheryl Williams, (Cygnus class teacher) and Kim Ollard (Aquila TA) taught cookery across the school to expose children to the spices and ingredients of Caribbean cuisine, especially focusing on the food that was sold at the TP carnival. Check out the news post and pictures here
Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th October
2 days of steel pan workshops with all children having an opportunity to participate. Check out the new post and picture here
Thursday 21st October
To celebrate the end of Black History Month, we hold the TPS Carnival in the playground.
